More Christopher Street Day parades planned in several Brandenburg cities

Overview of CSD parade dates

Christopher Street Days are demonstrations with which the lesbian, gay, bi, trans, inter, and queer community (LSBTIQ) draws attention to existing discrimination and advocates for greater visibility. In Brandenburg, a network of committed associations and individuals has formed in recent years that organizes the parades away from the major metropolises.

This year as well, Brandenburg is thus joining a cross-regional movement. In Berlin, the large Christopher Street Day under the motto "Auf die Straße. Für Demokratie und Vielfalt." is expected on July 26, 2026, drawing tens of thousands of participants according to the Berlin organizers.

Political context and statewide alliances

The smaller Brandenburg parades are also recording growing numbers of participants. In Königs Wusterhausen, according to the organizers, around 600 people took to the streets last year; in Ludwigsfelde, there were about 300. For the upcoming demonstrations, the organizers are expecting a further increase in participation.

In addition to the marches, supporting programs with information stands, music, and speeches are planned on the respective event days. Local alliances of church congregations, trade unions, political parties, and aid organizations are frequently involved in the preparations.

Growing response in the regions

The Brandenburg CSD landscape is now considered one of the densest regional demonstration networks for LSBTIQ rights in eastern Germany. Beyond the state's borders, the parades are also supported by initiatives from Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt.

With the growing number of events, political attention is also increasing. In the state parliament in Potsdam, the factions regularly debate the protection of minorities, the promotion of education in schools, and the fight against hate crime. The upcoming CSD parades will therefore be closely observed on the political side.

Parallel to the demonstrations, aid organizations point to existing counseling services. Mobile teams from Aids-Hilfe, the Lesben- und Schwulenverband Berlin-Brandenburg, and other providers are available at the event locations for conversations and provide information about protection and support options.

The organizers emphasize that the Christopher Street Days are expressly designed as demonstrations and not merely as festivals. They understand the parades as a political signal against exclusion and for an open society, which is meant to have a particular impact especially in rural Brandenburg.
