Berlin, September 20, 2026
The criminal trial against Andreas Scheuer over the failed car toll began before the Berlin Regional Court on September 20, 2026.
Indictment charges breach of trust
The indictment charges Scheuer with, among other things, breach of trust (*Untreue*). The background is the conclusion in 2018 of contracts with two private companies, the German firm CTS Eventim and the Austrian company Kapsch TrafficCom, which were supposed to collect and enforce the car toll. After the European Court of Justice (ECJ) struck down the German regulation in June 2019, the system became moot and the contracts were terminated early, without any toll ever being collected.
