Chinese memory chip manufacturer CXMT (Changxin Memory Technologies) has displaced internet conglomerate Tencent as the most valuable listed company in China, marking a milestone in the rise of the domestic semiconductor industry.
Stock market rise
CXMT's share price rose sharply in recent trading days, pushing the company's market capitalization past that of previous market leader Tencent. This is the first time a semiconductor company has taken the top spot in the Chinese stock index. Observers view the change as a symbol of the growing importance of the chip industry in the Chinese economy.
