Kuhlenkamp as Match Winner
The Danube Dragons have reached the final of the Austrian Football League (AFL) for the second year in a row. In the semifinal derby against the Vienna Vikings, the team from Wien-Floridsdorf prevailed 35:17 on Saturday in Wien-Donaufeld and will face the winner of the second semifinal on Sunday (4:00 p.m., live on ORF Sport +) between the Prague Black Panthers and the Graz Giants in two weeks at Austrian Bowl XLI in the Südstadt.
In Wien-Donaufeld, Dragons quarterback Walter Kuhlenkamp was the man of the match with four touchdowns. The German-American dual citizen threw the ball into the end zone twice and ran it in himself twice. With another run into the end zone in the remaining minute of play, he set the final score of 35:17.
The game started somewhat shaky, however: in the opening minutes both teams committed a total of three fumbles. Kuhlenkamp initially struggled to find his rhythm before the Dragons increasingly took control of the game. By halftime the hosts already led 14:3.
