Austrian defender David Nemeth has been named the new team captain at FC St. Pauli, succeeding Australian Jackson Irvine.
Promotion After Injury Layoff
The change at the helm of FC St. Pauli is now official: David Nemeth is taking over the captain's role at the Hamburg second-division club. The 26-year-old Austrian centre-back therefore follows Jackson Irvine, who had left the club after the previous season. According to sources within the club, the decision in favour of Nemeth was made early and was supported by head coach Marcel Rapp.
In the past Bundesliga season, however, Nemeth did not make a single appearance. A persistent groin injury kept him out for months, and he was unable to make any competitive appearance for the Hamburg side in Germany's top flight. "He did not play a single game for St. Pauli in the Bundesliga," sources close to the club said. The injury has since been considered fully healed.
