Spain's national football coach Luis de la Fuente has given an all-clear on Lamine Yamal ahead of his team's World Cup opener against Cape Verde on Monday (6:00 p.m. CEST), but left open whether the 18-year-old will feature in the starting lineup.

Concern about Lamine Yamal had been significant after the FC Barcelona attacking star had recently been sidelined with an injury. Ahead of the clash with the underdog from Cape Verde in Atlanta, coach Luis de la Fuente now provided an initial all-clear: "There is good news: Lamine is very fit," said the 64-year-old. At the same time, however, he cautioned that the 18-year-old would not necessarily start from the outset. "He is available, but he cannot play from the start," de la Fuente explained.

With this statement, the Spanish team boss responded to one of the most-discussed personnel questions ahead of the tournament. "He is in good shape and training very well," the Spaniard quickly added to reassure. The final decision on the starting formation would only be made on matchday, it was said from the Spanish camp.
