The Oberösterreichische Nachrichten (OÖN) have committed themselves ahead of the Austrian national football team's World Cup opener against Jordan on Wednesday at 6 a.m. to a likely starting XI from Ralf Rangnick.
Kalajdzic as first choice
For the ÖFB team's first group match at the World Cup in the USA, LASK striker Sasa Kalajdzic is considered a certain pick. The OÖN write that there is likely no way around Kalajdzic for the opener against Jordan. The striker, who recently won the league title with LASK, is accordingly the first choice in attack.
The background to the prediction is the newspaper's assessment that the Jordanians are the ideal opponent to start the tournament. For players who are not yet at 100 percent, this applies all the more. The OÖN thus let it be known that the match against the 64th-ranked side in the FIFA world rankings is also intended to serve as a stocktaking exercise for players who are carrying knocks or are not yet fully fit.
