Rescue forces on Monday recovered a hiker who had been missing since the weekend dead in the Hochschwab region of Styria, as the alpine police of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag reported.
After a search lasting several days, rescue forces on Monday recovered the body of a missing tour hiker in the Hochschwab region. According to the alpine police of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag, the man was discovered in the area of the Hochschwab plateau. Rescue forces had been searching since the weekend in the area, which extends to the Hochschwab plateau and is also considered difficult due to numerous sinkholes.
Difficult terrain with numerous sinkholes
The region around the Hochschwab massif is regarded as challenging terrain among mountaineers. Numerous sinkholes—natural depressions in the ground in the karst area—make the paths confusing and pose problems even for experienced alpinists. These geological features had significantly complicated the search for the missing person.
