A 42-year-old Moroccan citizen died during a police operation in Bologna's Pilastro neighborhood, sparking protests in several Italian cities and riots in Bologna that left 64 officers injured.
The incident occurred on Monday in the northeastern district of Pilastro, a high-rise housing estate on the outskirts of Bologna. According to the executive's account, the 42-year-old allegedly kicked the patrol car after officers arrived. Italian media published a roughly five-minute video recorded by residents documenting the man's final moments. He can be heard shouting "Aiuto! Genug, genug!", meaning "Help! Enough, enough!".
The Bologna prosecutor's office has opened investigations against the police officers and paramedics involved and released the body for an autopsy. Investigators hope the forensic examination will clarify the exact cause of death and the sequence of events during the operation. In parallel, body camera footage from the officers is being analyzed.
