At least 32 people were killed in a pub fire in Bangkok's Chatuchak district, according to the "Bangkok Post"; Thai authorities report 30 dead, and more than 70 people were injured.
Initial situation: Fire in busy district
The fire broke out suddenly late on Sunday evening while a live band was playing at the pub Rong Beer Na Ladprao. The venue is located in the Chatuchak district, which many tourists to Thailand also visit because of its famous weekend market. According to authorities, the flames spread rapidly because no fire-retardant materials had been used in the building or its interior fittings.
While rescue teams were still deployed, the death toll rose to 32 according to the Bangkok Post newspaper. Other Thai media, citing the authorities, spoke of 30 dead. Figures on the number of fatalities differ: the "Bangkok Post" most recently reported 32 victims, while other Thai media, citing official sources, report 30 dead. More than 70 people were injured, around 20 of them seriously.
