In an explosion-like fire at the pub "Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao" in the Thai capital Bangkok, at least 27 people were killed and 73 others injured in the night to Sunday, 25 of whom are in critical condition.

Fire in the middle of the night

According to Thai authorities, the fire broke out on Sunday shortly before midnight in the single-story, approximately 160-square-meter music venue near the internationally known Chatuchak Market. Shortly afterward, according to the newspaper "Thairath," an explosion occurred, after which dense smoke spread within seconds. After the disaster, only razor-sharp shards of glass protrude from the pub's windows.

A 32-year-old visitor told media that a friend had first noticed a burning smell, and shortly afterward the ceiling was in flames. The eyewitness Chakrit Khongkom told the broadcaster: "Der Rauch war überall". Emergency crews had to rescue numerous people from the burning building.
