Vienna, June 28, 2026
The approximately 140 households in western Vienna that had been without hot water since Thursday morning have been fully supplied again since Sunday afternoon following the completion of construction work on the Flötzersteig district heating pipeline.
Background: The Flötzersteig Pipeline
The Flötzersteig pipeline has supplied Vienna with district heating from the waste incineration plant of the same name since the 1960s. During the annual revision of the plant, which otherwise runs around the clock, plant components over several kilometers were modernized and fittings were renewed. According to Wiener Netze, the work could only be carried out in this narrow time window because Austria's oldest thermal waste utilization plant is otherwise in continuous operation.
