The persistent drought of the past weeks is causing water levels in the small streams to drop. In the tributary streams of the Große Erlauf, the removal of fish stocks is currently underway, according to a report from Purgstall.
The combination of low water levels, rising water temperature and decreasing oxygen content is putting the fish under pressure. For trout and other fish species, this can have fatal consequences, the report continues.
