VIENNA, 30 June 2026
In Austria, 25 people have died in drowning accidents this year, as announced by the Road Safety Board (KFV), which is warning of a possible record summer and calling for greater caution when swimming.
The number of drowning deaths in Austria continues to rise: by the end of June 2025, 25 people had already lost their lives in drowning accidents, according to a media review by the Road Safety Board (KFV). If the trend continues in the second half of the year, a new record high threatens, following the 50 deaths in 2023 and 44 deaths in 2024. The official statistics for 2025 have not yet been published, according to the KFV: "Die Zahl der Badetoten für das Jahr 2025 ist noch nicht von der Statistik Austria veröffentlicht worden."
