Drunk 20-year-old loses control of car and crashes into alpine hut in East Tyrol

Investigations and consequences

According to initial investigations, the 20-year-old Austrian was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The district administration of Lienz has been brought into the further inquiries. The B111 Gailtalstraße was closed in the area of the accident site for the duration of the recovery and investigation work.

Open questions

Why the young man lost control of his vehicle in the dark is still the subject of the ongoing investigation. Police are checking, according to their own statements, whether, in addition to alcohol, weather conditions or excessive speed also played a role. The alpine hut sustained significant damage according to initial assessments.
