Drunk driver crashes into oncoming traffic on B1 in Lower Austria – car driver dies

Course of the accident and rescue operation

The emergency services that were alerted, including rescue teams, fire department and police, deployed to the scene of the accident on the B1. The federal highway was closed to traffic in the area of the accident site for several hours. Driver's level of intoxication

During the investigations, a breathalyzer test was conducted on the 40-year-old driver, which showed a significantly elevated value, according to police. The exact results of the intoxication test as well as any potential driver's license revocation will be the subject of further investigations.

The deceased is a 63-year-old man from the district of Perg, about whom the police initially provided no further personal details. No further details about the crash perpetrator were released either, for investigative tactical reasons.

The accident occurred on one of Austria's most heavily traveled federal highways. The B1 runs through the Mostviertel region and connects the Amstetten area with the town of Grein and onward toward Linz. Especially on such connecting routes, the risk of serious head-on collisions is particularly high when vehicles cross into the oncoming lane.
