Lausanne, 20 August 2026

Armand Duplantis defeated his Greek rival Emmanouil Karalis in a tight duel at the meeting record height of 6.16 meters at the pole vault meeting in Lausanne.

The duel between the two top athletes was one of the highlights of the evening at the stadium on Lake Geneva. Over several heights, Armand Duplantis and Emmanouil Karalis engaged in a technically and nerve-wracking high-class competition, in which no jump came easily.

Both athletes had previously met several times at world-class level this season. Duplantis, the Swede, traveled to Lausanne as the holder of numerous world records and was considered the slight favorite – but Karalis, the Greek champion, had attracted attention with strong results in the weeks before.

Situation before the jump

At the middle heights, the two rivals took turns with confident jumps. Neither Duplantis nor Karalis gave anything away here, so the duel was only to be decided at the higher and more demanding stages.
