Strasbourg, 20 May 2026

The EU and US have finalized a trade agreement setting tariffs at 15% for most exports, with the deal lasting until the end of 2029.

The agreement, reached in the early hours of the morning in Strasbourg, sees the EU accepting US tariffs of up to 15% on most goods exported to the United States.

In return, the EU has agreed to abolish its own tariffs on US industrial goods.

The deal was negotiated behind closed doors, with EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic posting a group photo of the teams at 3:03 AM.

US President Donald Trump had set a deadline for the implementation of the agreement, threatening higher tariffs if the EU did not comply by July 4.

The deal includes a provision for the EU to retaliate with equivalent tariffs if the US does not adjust its policies by the end of 2026.
