EU Commission transfers 3.9 billion euros to Ukraine for drone procurement

Reaction from Kyiv

Ukrainian Prime Minister Julia Swyrydenko thanked the EU and all partners for the "rechtzeitige Unterstützung". On the X platform, she wrote that the aid served an urgent defense need, expanded the production of Ukrainian drones, strengthened the domestic arms industry, and ensured important supplies to the front.

According to figures from Brussels, 60 billion euros of the total loan of 90 billion euros is earmarked for defense-related expenditure. The drone financing is part of this defense share and is intended to help expand industrial production capacity in Ukraine.

Outlook on further payments

According to the Commission, around half of the amount now released is to flow to Ukraine still in the current year 2026. A further 45 billion euros could follow in the coming year under current plans, provided the political and budgetary requirements on the EU side are met.

Ukraine has been using drones on a large scale against vehicles, positions, and infrastructure of the attacker since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion. The delivery of additional funds from the EU loan is intended to finance both domestic production and imports, thereby immediately strengthening the country's defense capability.

With the transfer of 3.9 billion euros, the EU Commission is continuing a series of financial aid packages that have been provided since the beginning of the war for the economic and military stabilization of Kyiv. Brussels thereby pursues the goal of keeping Ukraine capable of defending itself in the short term while also supporting it in reconstruction over the long term.
