An ongoing heat wave continues to burden eastern Austria, while Geosphere Austria warns of health risks from extreme temperatures.

The east of Austria has been hit for days by a pronounced heat wave. According to meteorologists, this is due to a strong high-pressure system which, together with subtropical warm air masses, is causing unusually high temperatures. While the west of the country has already experienced cooling through showers and thunderstorms, the eastern regions remain exposed to extreme stress, according to Geosphere Austria.

Record temperature in Vienna

On Sunday, the Geosphere Austria measuring station Vienna-Innere Stadt recorded exactly 40.0 degrees Celsius at 4:35 p.m. On Monday as well, temperatures in the east of the country remained at very high levels. According to the forecast, nighttime temperatures are expected to drop only to between 16 and 25 degrees Celsius, with the east once again remaining the warmest.
