The federal government is financing half of the electrification of the Pinzgau Local Railway, estimated at around 60 million euros, and is noticeably expanding its investment program for private railways from 2027 onward.
The approximately 53-kilometer-long narrow-gauge railway connects Zell am See via Mittersill with Krimml and has belonged to the State of Salzburg since 2008. It is operated by Salzburg AG. The line runs on an hourly schedule and, according to a press release, is used by more than 2,750 passengers daily. This makes it an important part of public transport in the Upper Pinzgau region.
