Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) views the Federal Police as significantly burdened by the border controls that have been in effect at all of Germany's national borders for roughly a year, and at the same time spoke out against a permanent continuation during a ceremony marking the agency's 75th anniversary in Potsdam.
According to Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), the Federal Police is heavily challenged by the border controls that have been in place at all German national borders since September 2024. At a formal ceremony in Potsdam marking the agency's 75th anniversary, Dobrindt said he knew that he was demanding a great deal of the Federal Police and expressed his admiration for what the officers were accomplishing at the border. The minister added: "Ich war mir nicht ganz sicher, ob die Frauen und Männer bei der Bundespolizei (…), die Bundespolizei - ihre Organisation - in der Lage und bereit ist, genau diese Aufgabe mitzuerledigen".
