Felix Gall climbs to fifth overall at the Vuelta

The general classification continues to be led by Tadej Pogačar; the Slovenian is controlling the race and slightly extended his lead. Behind him follow further top favourites, including Enric Mas, who as the Spanish local hero is battling for a top place.

Competition in the general classification

Patrick Konrad is another Austrian in the peloton who still has ambitions for a good placing after six stages. Konrad is operating in the background, working for the team and supporting the classification riders in the bunch.

The stage win did not go to Gall, but to another rider who had prevailed in an earlier breakaway group. Gall, however, kept the pace high in the decisive phase and secured another top result with sixth place.

Looking ahead at the remaining race programme, the riders face demanding mountain stages in the coming days in which the order in the general classification could be reshuffled. With his current placing, Gall has a solid starting position from which to improve further.

Outlook on the second race week

The performance is reminiscent of earlier strong Vuelta appearances by Austrian riders, such as Tony Rominger, who caused a stir at the Spanish tour in the 1990s. Gall's consistent development makes him a candidate for the second race week that the competition must take into account.
