Felix Gall has seized fourth place overall at the Vuelta a España with a strong mountain finish at Aramon Valdelinares and has brought the podium within touching distance.

The mountain finish at Aramon Valdelinares, at nearly 2,000 metres above sea level, was on Tuesday the first genuine high-mountain test of this year's Spanish tour. The day before, a violent hailstorm had forced the abandonment of the third stage to Font Romeu in the Pyrenees, which is why the overall classification was still tightly bunched. On the high plateau of the Sierra de Gúdar, the riders then had to battle for the first time in the fight for seconds and altitude in the high mountains.

Felix Gall used the gradients to produce a clear shift in the overall standings. The Austrian moved up to fourth place and now sits just narrowly behind the podium positions. He has thus closed the gap to the top and put himself in a promising starting position for the upcoming mountain stages.
