Extent of the fire

The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon on a field between the B10 and Vienna Airport in the district of Bruck an der Leitha. As the Mannswörth fire brigade reported, "35 Hektar Feld und mehrere hundert Meter Windschutzgürtel in Brand" were set alight. According to the information, the flames spread rapidly, which made the operation particularly difficult for the alerted brigades.

According to the emergency services, "zehn Feuerwehren mit 120 Mitgliedern" fought for six hours against the spread of the fire. In addition to the professional and volunteer fire brigades, a farmer who was present also supported the firefighting work with his cultivator. With the agricultural equipment, it was apparently possible to cut fire breaks or effectively work on smouldering nests in order to prevent the flames from spreading further.
