A fire in the nursery of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in the Pakistani capital Islamabad killed 14 newborns in the early hours of Wednesday, according to hospital officials and the government.

The fire broke out in the early morning hours in the newborn ward of PIMS, one of the country's largest state-run hospitals. According to the hospital administration and the government, 14 babies died as a result of the blaze. The circumstances that led to the disaster are the subject of an investigation that has been launched.
