On Sunday at around 5:40 p.m., a fire broke out in a storage shed next to a residential building in Pfaffstätt (district of Braunau). According to the fire department, two residents of the house — a 22-year-old Romanian man and a 21-year-old Romanian woman — discovered the fire and initially attempted to fight the blaze. However, their attempts to extinguish it were unsuccessful.

The fire spread rapidly, first engulfing the directly adjacent garage of a neighboring house, as well as another neighboring garage and a third directly adjacent garage. Due to the enormous heat generated, the facades of two residential buildings were also significantly damaged.
