All of Austria was gripped by Lotto fever in the days leading up to the draw. By Friday morning, 4.6 million tips had already been submitted according to the Lotterien. By Sunday, a total of around eleven million tips were expected – more than the country has inhabitants. The high frequency was registered by the Lotterien especially on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

A special feature of Austrian Lotto is the high probability of winning compared to other major lotteries. The probability that a ticket bears the six correct numbers of a lucky winner is between 75 and 80 percent. Who submitted the historic six is still unknown. The Österreichische Lotterien are legally required to allow the winner to play exclusively within Austria. This means only persons with a betting slip registered in Austria are eligible. The Lotterien recommend that, in the event of a win, a trusted person be commissioned to manage the ticket: "Man kann hier nur empfehlen, dass ein Freund, dem man vertraut, für einen spielt."

Styria came into particular focus beforehand because, based on experience, many tips are submitted there. There are no concrete indications so far of the winner being from Styria or any other federal state. The Lotterien ask for patience: the winner's identity will only be made public after the official prize claim.

Record Comparison: The Seven-Fold Jackpot of 2018

The previous record jackpot in Austrian Lotto dates from November 2018, when a player from Lower Austria won 14.9 million euros in the first seven-fold jackpot. The current eight-fold jackpot does not surpass that record in terms of amount, but it is a historic novelty in Austrian Lotto history due to the number of consecutive rollovers.

The money should be invested in a way that provides a reliable additional income, she said with regard to reputable investments. Whatever is left over can then also be splashed out: "Was dann noch übrig ist, darf auch verprasst werden." What matters is not letting sudden feelings of euphoria guide one's actions.

"Die Herausforderung besteht darin, dass die plötzlichen Glücksgefühle nicht unser Handeln bestimmen," Thomashoff continued. His advice is to seek professional help before making any major decisions. Without such an approach, it does not work: "Von allein geht das nicht."

For the Österreichische Lotterien, the eight-fold jackpot represents a marketing effect unlike any before. According to their own figures, playing frequency was higher than it had been in years. Whether this effect will last after the draw will become clear in the coming weeks. What is certain is that the draw on July 19, 2026 has opened a new chapter in Austrian Lotto history.
