The US automaker Ford has hired 350 experienced engineers and thereby partially reversed its AI strategy in vehicle development, as CEO Jim Farley explained to Bloomberg.

Following a phase of excessive automation, US automaker Ford has hired 350 experienced engineers. As reported by the news service Bloomberg, the specialists come partly from the company's own ranks and partly from suppliers. According to Bloomberg, Ford is the automaker with the most recalls in the USA and expects warranty and recall costs of one billion US dollars in 2026.

CEO Jim Farley stated that the rehiring is already showing effects: "Wir sehen, dass unsere Garantiekosten zurückgehen. Wir sehen, dass unsere Rückrufkosten sinken". This brings Ford "buchstäblich Hunderte und Hunderte Millionen Dollar an Kostenersparnissen". Internally, the move is referred to as the "Grey Beard" offensive because the company is deliberately relying on older, seasoned specialists.
