A forest fire on Spain's Costa Brava has prompted the Catalan authorities to urge around 45,000 residents not to leave their homes.

A forest fire on the Costa Brava put authorities in Catalonia on alert over the weekend. According to the regional government, around 45,000 people were asked to stay home as the flames spread near the coastal region.

Update of July 5, 2026: Compared with the situation the previous day, matters have escalated in that the authorities have expanded protective measures. While previously individual localities had been evacuated, around 45,000 people in the affected municipalities are now subject to an explicit recommendation not to leave their homes. The regional government of Catalonia has also requested additional emergency personnel from other parts of Spain.
