Jüterbog, July 13, 2026

A fire with significant smoke development broke out on Monday on the grounds of the former Jüterbog-West military training area in Brandenburg and is being fought by around 30 fire department emergency personnel.

According to a spokesperson for the fire department, the fire broke out in the "Altes Lager" area. The fire area currently covers approximately 2.4 hectares, according to the fire department. This corresponds to a size of about three soccer fields, as reported. Twelve fire department vehicles are deployed for firefighting.

The situation is "relatively relaxed," the fire department explained according to available information. For the site, the fire area is so far "not exceptionally large," the spokesperson said. The fire is advancing slowly, which is related to the "relatively good infrastructure" of the site, characterized by drivable roads for the fire department and vegetation-poor forest fire breaks.
