The four-year-old Magdalena K. from Austria drowned in the swimming pool of the Hotel Continental in Milano Marittima while on vacation with her family.
Following the child's death, the Italian public prosecutor's office has opened investigations for negligent homicide. According to Italian media reports, the focus is on both the hotel's responsible parties – including the operator and the employee in charge of the pool – as well as the 56-year-old girl's father. The father is also being investigated on suspicion of violation of supervisory duty, according to judicial sources.
Investigations against hotel and father
According to initial findings, the three access gates to the pool were open, although no lifeguard was on duty at the time of the accident. The public prosecutor's office ordered the hotel's swimming pool to be secured and is examining the exact sequence of events. An autopsy was ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
