France's national team coach Didier Deschamps has surpassed longtime German record coach Helmut Schön with the 2-0 quarterfinal victory against Morocco and is in the semifinal of the 2026 World Cup with his team.

With the well-deserved success over Morocco, Deschamps moves past Schön, who coached the German national team from 1964 to 1978 and stood on the touchline in 25 World Cup matches. Deschamps now has 26 World Cup appearances as a coach and will be able to extend this record in the semifinal on Tuesday against Spain or Belgium. "Wir sind ganz ruhig, wir sind in einer Blase und haben eine große Hürde genommen", said Deschamps later in his calm but very clear and decisive manner, explaining: "Die Spieler haben die Pflicht, alles in ihrer Macht Stehende zu tun, um so weit wie möglich zu kommen - mal gelingt das und mal nicht."
