Paris, 24 June 2026

France has reported a first confirmed Ebola case linked to the current outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Ministry of Health in Paris announced.

The patient is a doctor who had previously provided humanitarian aid in the Democratic Republic of Congo and developed a fever along with mild symptoms after his return to France. As the Ministry of Health announced, the affected individual was taken directly to a hospital upon his arrival and isolated. The location where the patient is being treated has not been disclosed; the ministry stated only that it is on mainland France.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said in Geneva: "Das Risiko für den Rest der Welt bleibt dennoch niedrig." The WHO Director-General Tedros also said there was no cause for panic. The WHO has not raised its risk assessment for Ebola despite the first case in France. According to the WHO, the patient is doing as well as can be expected given the circumstances.
