The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a "public health emergency of international concern" (PHEIC) following an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda, citing a high risk of regional spread.

Outbreak Spreads Across Borders

The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, has resulted in eight confirmed cases and 246 suspected infections in Ituri province, northeastern DRC. Two infected individuals traveled from the DRC to Uganda, with one confirmed death. A separate case has also been confirmed in Kinshasa, the DRC’s capital.
