France, together with the United Kingdom, has stopped the oil tanker 'Tagor' in the Atlantic Ocean, which is allegedly part of Russia's so-called shadow fleet.
The Prime Minister announced this. The tanker is suspected of being part of a fleet with which Russia is circumventing Western sanctions following the Ukraine war. The operation was carried out in close coordination with partners, including the United Kingdom.
The shadow fleet consists of ships whose ownership is obscured and which often sail under foreign flags. They transport Russian oil to circumvent the price caps and embargoes imposed by the EU and other states.

The stop of the tanker is another step by the West to maintain economic pressure on Moscow. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Since then, Ukraine's allies have been trying to make it more difficult to finance the war through energy exports.
