Attack on the Capital

The Russian military attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv once again overnight with ballistic missiles. At least two people were killed according to Ukrainian authorities. The Ukrainian air force said the Russian military had fired at least eight missiles at the city of three million and its surroundings in two waves.

Mayor Klitschko said fires had broken out in a warehouse in the west of the city and in an uninhabited house in an eastern district. Ballistic missiles are significantly harder to intercept than cruise missiles or drones due to their high speed. While Ukrainian air defenses have a relatively high hit rate against Russian drones and cruise missiles, they are largely powerless against ballistic missiles.
