Fredrik Dversnes of Norway claimed the biggest win of his career on Sunday, sprinting to victory from a four-man breakaway on the Giro d’Italia’s flat run from Voghera to Milan.

The 29-year-old Uno-X Mobility rider edged out Italians Mirco Maestri (Team Polti VisitMalta) and Martin Marcellusi (Bardiani CSF 7 Saber) after the escape group surprisingly stayed clear on the final 16-kilometer finishing circuit. Mattia Bais, also of Polti, took fourth.

Stage 14 covered 157 kilometers with barely 200 meters of elevation gain and no categorized climbs. Temperatures soared above 30 degrees Celsius as a breakaway formed soon after the start in Voghera, a scenario that initially looked doomed on such a straightforward course.
