Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard won the first mountain finish of the 2026 Giro d'Italia on Sunday, cutting his overall deficit to race leader Afonso Eulalio by half in the 195km seventh stage from Porcari to Chiavari.

Vingegaard, the pre-race favorite, crossed the line 27 seconds ahead of the main peloton to claim his first stage win of this year's Giro. The victory moves him into second place overall, just 27 seconds behind Portuguese leader Afonso Eulalio.

The decisive moment came on the final climb where Vingegaard attacked with 5km remaining, dropping all his rivals. 'I knew this was my chance to gain time,' Vingegaard said after the stage. 'The team worked perfectly to set me up for this moment.'
