Jonas Vingegaard won the 9th stage of the Giro d'Italia solo on Sunday, overtaking his last competitor in the final kilometer of the mountain finish.
The Danish cyclist attacked after the 'Flamme rouge' and left Felix Gall behind, finishing 12 seconds ahead of the Austrian in the stage.
Afonso Eulalio, the current leader, lost 41 seconds to Vingegaard in the stage but maintains his position at the top of the overall standings.
Vingegaard's performance has narrowed the gap to Eulalio to 2 minutes and 24 seconds, setting up an exciting battle for the pink jersey in the coming stages.
