Linz, Austria — May 19, 2026

French AI powerhouse Mistral AI has acquired Austrian startup Emmi AI in a deal valued in the mid-three-figure million range, with sources citing approximately €500 million.

The acquisition positions Mistral, Europe’s most valuable tech startup, as a leader in industrial AI applications, particularly for high-risk sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and semiconductor manufacturing. Emmi AI, founded in 2024 as a spin-off from Linz’s Johannes Kepler University (JKU), will integrate into Mistral’s global operations by the end of May.

Strategic Expansion into Industrial AI

Mistral, founded in 2023 and now valued at €13 billion, aims to challenge U.S. tech giants like OpenAI and Google in the AI sector. The acquisition of Emmi AI marks its first major foray into AI-powered industrial engineering and manufacturing.
