Roth, 05 July 2026
French triathlete Sam Laidlow won the long-distance Challenge Roth race, setting a new world record with a time of 7:21:04 hours.
The 27-year-old needed 7:21:04 hours in total for the 3.86 kilometers of swimming, 180 kilometers of cycling, and 42.195 kilometers of running. He thus beat the previous best mark by Kristian Blummenfelt, which the Norwegian had set in April at Ironman Texas and which stood at 7:21:24 hours. It is Laidlow's second consecutive victory at the traditional race in the Franconian town of Roth.
Behind Laidlow, Norwegian favorite Kristian Blummenfelt crossed the finish line 5:20 minutes back. Blummenfelt had started the race as the top favorite but, after a chase, only managed to work his way up to second place. Leipzig's Rico Bogen impressed on his first long-distance triathlon, taking third place in 7:27:53 hours.
