Heilbronn, Germany — May 11, 2026

A small plane crash in Namibia's Sossusvlei desert has claimed the lives of three German tourists, including prominent business figures Silke and Richard Lohmiller, along with the aircraft's pilot.

Tragic Discovery in the Desert

The wreckage of the missing Cessna 2021 was found Monday morning in the remote Sossusvlei desert region, according to Willem de Wet, CEO of Desert Air, the operating airline. "Leider gibt es keine Überlebenden," de Wet stated, confirming no survivors from Sunday's flight. The aircraft had departed from a private airstrip near Hosea Kutako International Airport en route to a tourist lodge but never arrived.

Namibian authorities reported that approximately 110,000 German tourists visited the country in 2024, making Germany one of its key tourism markets. The crash site's remote location in the arid Sossusvlei region complicated search efforts before the wreck was ultimately located.
