Windhoek, 30 May 2026

The remains of German national Silke Lohmiller have been formally identified among the victims of a light aircraft crash that occurred on May 10 in a remote desert region of Namibia.

Remote Crash Site

Police announced the identification on Thursday, bringing a somber conclusion to the search and recovery effort in the rugged terrain between Windhoek and Sossusvlei. "Alle Opfer wurden identifiziert, einschließlich der sterblichen Überreste der weiblichen Passagierin," a police spokesperson stated, confirming that all victims, including passenger, have now been identified.

The crash site lies in an extremely isolated area characterized by mountains reaching up to 1,900 meters in height. No developed road traverses this inhospitable desert landscape, which significantly complicated the initial recovery operation.
