On 12 July 2026, at around 11:45 a.m., a single-engine Piper light aircraft crashed in the municipal area of Gaming in Lower Austria; the 47-year-old pilot and his 47-year-old female passenger were killed, while a 15-year-old and a 41-year-old were seriously injured.

Investigations into the cause of the crash

The State Criminal Police Office of Lower Austria has taken over the inquiries into the cause of the accident. As stated in a police release, the investigations fall within the Leib/Leben investigation area and are supported by the crime scene assistance unit. According to police, the nationwide safety investigation authority, an independent body that investigates aviation accidents, is also involved. "Further details on the identity of the victims were not yet known," the investigators said the day after the crash. The police also initially provided no information on the possible cause of the fatal crash.
