A 30-year-old German cyclist from Penzberg has died from her severe injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on 23 June on the pass road at the Sella Pass in Trentino; the accident involved former ski racer Peter Runggaldier and his motorcycle.
According to consistent reports, the woman had been on a cycling tour through the Dolomites together with her husband when the collision occurred on the road at the Sella Pass. The couple had chosen South Tyrol as their wedding location and had planned their stay in the mountains to include sporting activities as well. The cyclist was thrown onto the roadway and was airlifted by rescue helicopter to the San Maurizio Hospital in Bolzano.
According to people in her circle, the 30-year-old was known as a mountain guide, blogger, and outdoor influencer. She was initially treated at the San Maurizio Hospital in Bolzano before being transferred to a clinic in Bavaria. There, she succumbed to her severe injuries.
Course of the accident
On the opposite side, Peter Runggaldier was riding a motorcycle, travelling on the pass road towards the Pordoi Pass near Canazei in Trentino at the time of the accident. The 57-year-old suffered multiple bone fractures in the collision and was airlifted by rescue helicopter to the Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento.
