The three German LNG terminals on the North Sea and Baltic Sea imported significantly more liquefied natural gas in the first half of 2026 than in the same period the previous year, even though the Iran conflict has weighed on shipments from Qatar and on passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to data from the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA), some 67,000 megawatt-hours of LNG were shipped to Germany in the first six months of the current year, compared with 39,000 megawatt-hours in the first half of 2025. That corresponds to growth of more than 70 percent. LNG's share of total German gas imports rose to around 12 percent, according to BNetzA figures, after standing at roughly 8 percent in 2024.
