Heating oil prices in Germany have nearly doubled compared to last year as the conflict in Iran and fears over the Strait of Hormuz disrupt global crude markets.
On the Ground in Duisburg
“When heating oil suddenly becomes a luxury: ‘Our customers wait until the last drop,’” reports WDR, capturing the mood on the ground in Duisburg. Delivery driver Abdurrahim Araz, 47, wrestles a 30-kilogram filling hose through a front garden to a basement shaft, a physically demanding routine he repeats daily.
“1000 liters?” Araz asks a customer to confirm the order. The price today is 1.30 euros per liter, plus value-added tax. “Who can still afford that? That’s double compared to last year,” Araz says, shaking his head.
