Budapest, August 10, 2026

The German men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay has won the bronze medal at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest, claiming the first German pool medal of the title events.

In a close final on August 10, 2026, the German quartet secured third place. It is the first podium finish for a German men's relay in this discipline since the title from Berlin 2014, which at that time Paul Biedermann had carried home as the anchor swimmer.

The Race and the Lineup

The German quartet competed with Lukas Märtens, Jarno Bäschnitt, Cornelius Jahn, and Timo Sorgius. Märtens, who served as the anchor, brought the team into third position and held off the Hungarian quartet to the finish.
