Frankfurt am Main, 30 July 2026

The German Weather Service (DWD) measured new heat records at several stations in Germany on Thursday and Friday, with temperatures in some places clearly exceeding the 40-degree mark.

On Thursday and Friday, the measuring stations of the German Weather Service (DWD) registered peak values that in some cases surpassed the previous benchmarks. In Möckern-Drewitz in Saxony-Anhalt, the thermometer climbed to 39.7 degrees according to DWD data, exceeding the previous record at this station. New station records were also set in Kitzingen in Bavaria and in Ohlsbach in Baden-Württemberg. At the Möhnesee in North Rhine-Westphalia, the temperature rose to 40.1 degrees.

The heat affected nearly all of Germany on Friday. Only directly on the coast and in higher mountainous regions did values remain below the 30-degree mark, according to the DWD. In metropolitan areas such as Frankfurt am Main, maximum temperatures were widely between 37 and 39 degrees. The DWD spoke of an exceptional weather situation, favored by persistent high-pressure systems and dry air from southern latitudes.
